Calling All Members...to Nominate Candidates for Office!

2015 election email header

It’s that time of year again! No, not Valentine’s Day or tax season...FLC election season! This year, five national and six regional positions are up for election. The various nominating committees are accepting nominations through Feb. 27.

Elections are a major opportunity to shape the future of the FLC. If there’s an issue, a goal, or a need that’s important to you, running for office is a great way to bring your priorities to the forefront. If you’re thinking about running or want to recommend someone else, here are answers to your burning questions.

What positions are up for election?

Chair, Vice-Chair, and three Member-at-Large seats at the national level. Regional Coordinator and Deputy positions are open for nomination in the Mid-Continent, Northeast, and Southeast regions. All are two-year terms that start on Oct. 1. You can find detailed descriptions of each role’s responsibilities at our 2015 elections pages.

Who’s eligible?

Consortium Representatives (i.e., a voting representative) or Consortium Participants can run or nominate others for office. The candidate’s management must approve of his or her candidacy. If you meet those criteria, you can nominate yourself or a colleague who also fits them.

How do I nominate someone?

For all elections, you can submit a nomination at vote.federallabs.org. The candidate should have a picture and a statement; the form contains guidelines for what you’ll need to submit to complete a nomination.

When does voting take place?

If you’re coming to the national meeting, you’ll vote there. If not, you can vote via absentee ballot from March 27 to April 20. (If you’re not sure whether you’re eligible to vote, now is a great time to check! Contact Jenna Mancuso if you have any questions about your voting status.)

How long do I have to nominate?

Until Feb. 27. We’ll announce the candidates no later than March 27, when we distribute absentee ballots.

...And that’s about it—it’s pretty simple! So if you’ve been thinking of something we ought to do, now’s the time to step up and get involved! If you need more information, check our elections page or email Jenna Mancuso. We wish all candidates the best of luck.
