The Department of Energy established in 2015 the Office of Technology Transitions, OTT, led by the statutorily appointed Technology Transfer Coordinator to ensure that the OTT is aligned with the Secretary’s vision and that the Secretary is advised on all matters relating to technology transfer and commercialization activities. The mission of the Office of Technology Transitions is to expand the commercial impact of the DOE’s research and development portfolio to advance the economic, energy, and national security interests of the Nation. As one of its core functions, OTT collects, analyzes and manages TT data and metrics from across the complex of labs and facilities. The office also oversees major DOE initiatives: Technology Commercialization Fund, Energy Investor Center, and other Technology to Market initiatives including Energy I-Corps.

This presentation will include an overview of the ways that OTT’s coordination and facilitation across DOE programs, offices, sites and labs contributes to consistency and improvement of policies and enhancements of practices. Specific examples of how OTT is leading the development of policies and practices that strengthen technology transfer outcomes will be discussed.
