Federal technology transfer offices sit on an underused asset for business development: Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDAs), Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Sponsored Research Agreements (CRADA, WFO); which represent organizations with demonstrated interest, trust, and alignment with labs.

This session draws my experience in technology marketing, agreement tracking, and data modernization to demonstrate how agreement data can be used to generate new partnership and agreement leads. I will discuss practical methods for organizing and analyzing agreement records, identifying repeat and adjacent partners, and translating past collaborations into forward-looking partnership pipelines.

Topics include structuring agreement data for business development use, identifying patterns across CDAs, MTAs, and SRAs, and expanding from known partners to adjacent companies, divisions, and segments. Examples illustrate how offices can move beyond one-off agreements to intentional partner development—casting a wider net.

Attendees will leave with repeatable workflows to turn agreement data into sustained industry engagement.

Learning Objectives

  1. Use CDA, MTA, and sponsored research agreement data to identify high-probability industry partners for future collaboration.
  2. Structure and analyze agreement records to reveal repeat sponsors, expansion opportunities, and industry trends.
  3. Expand from existing partners to adjacent companies and sectors to build a broader, more sustainable sponsored research pipeline.
