The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) will be a state-of-the-art, biocontainment laboratory for the study of diseases that threaten both America’s animal agricultural industry and public health. NBAF is in Manhattan, Kansas, and will strengthen our nation’s ability to conduct research, develop vaccines, diagnose emerging diseases, and train veterinarians.
In preparation for the NBAF opening later this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is hosting a virtual Scientific Symposium as a 5-day series of presentations and dialogues. The purpose is to share innovative research being conducted in the fields of emerging, transboundary animal and zoonotic diseases as well as to facilitate dialogues around research gaps and response needs in these areas.
Each day will address one of the following themes. Speakers will provide an overview of new technologies and methodologies within each topic, and participants will be encouraged to identify challenges and opportunities in developing and advancing understanding in these areas.
* Viral Disease Pathogenesis
* Next-Generation Diagnostics
* Next-Generation Vaccines
* Epidemiology and Disease Ecology
* Emergency Response Research
