This webinar, part of the Energy an Environmental Sciences Division Energy Talks Seminar Series, will have two parts.

1. Ryan Kerekes, presenter: New embedded parallel compute platforms such as the NVIDIA Jetson series have enabled AI developers to bring intelligent data analysis to the “edge,” that is, to process collected data at the source rather than having to transfer it to another location. These platforms are driving the development of low-power, intelligent sensors for a wide variety of sensing applications. Ryan Kerekes will discuss how these emerging platforms are being applied to roadside vehicle sensors as well as other potential applications of relevance to energy and environmental science.

2. Jennifer Morrel-Falvey, presenter: The interactions between plants and their associated microbes are complex and have important implications for plant health and productivity. These complex communities are shaped by the functional diversity expressed by their members as well as the environmental forces acting on them. Jennifer Morrell-Falvey will discuss efforts to observe these interactions and to characterize the underlying mechanisms that promote plant association by microbes.
