Predictive Models and High Performance Computing as Tools to Accelerate the Scaling-Up of New Bio-Based Fuels

On June 9-11, 2020 the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) will host the virtual Workshop on Predictive Models and High Performance Computing as tools to Accelerate the Scaling-up of New Bio-Based Fuels.

The workshop is designed to determine if predictive models and high performance computing can and should be utilized to:

* accelerate scaling-up of biotechnologies,
* reduce uncertainty in biotechnologies,
* optimize operations of equipment and processes.

In particular, determining if effective utilization of mathematical models and Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning in conjunction with highly instrumented bench-, pilot-, and demonstration-scaled facilities can be used to validate and improve system and subsystem models.

DOE will use the outcomes of this workshop to direct future goals related to accelerate reliable scaling-up and integration to further enable biofuels which may include a Funding Opportunity Announcement.
