What is govtech? It is new technologies that empower government employees, improve public services, and make a real difference in everything from the housing crisis to climate change. It is a growing market worth over $400 billion that is attracting a new generation of technologists, designers and mission-driven entrepreneurs who are collaborating with government partners to help drive a movement. As paper processes shift to digital workflows full of big data, governments are gaining new visibility and actionable insights into sticky problems and seeing their role evolve to become dedicated enablers of change.

#ThisIsGovtech is a new webinar series exploring the govtech movement. If you work in government, join us to be inspired by the passion, creativity and impact of this growing field. (Free for government employees; government email address required to receive webinar details.)

This month: Access and Accessibility!

Guest speaker: Alex Banh, Digital Equity Manager, City and County of San Francisco
Case studies from: SeamlessDocs and Neighborly

A central component of providing public services is ensuring people have the ability to access and utilize them. The digital age is bringing critical government services online, but this innovation risks leaving behind both those lacking modern internet connectivity and those with accessibility challenges. There is now a much-needed push to improve access to, and the accessibility of, public services—from deploying the essential open access broadband infrastructure and addressing the growing digital divide, to enforcing standards like W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Beyond ensuring a level playing field for all, addressing access and accessibility can improve the user experience for every consumer of government services.
