Ames Laboratory has a long standing reputation for delivering new or improved materials and processing capabilities to the world.

From developing a way to process uranium for the Manhattan Project to developing a lead free solder used in virtually every electronic in the world, Ames Laboratory researchers have listened to the needs of their customers.

For these reasons and numerous others we honor Ames Laboratory and its director Dr. Adam Schwartz with the 2015 Outstanding Regional Laboratory.


Recently, important advances founded through their Energy Innovation Hub’s Critical Material Institute range from new cost efficient rare earth phosphors in fluorescent lighting to a new process for recycling rare earth metals found in cell phones and electronics. For these reasons and numerous others we honor Ames Laboratory and its director Dr. Adam Schwartz with the 2015 Outstanding Regional Laboratory.
