3D virtual reality training improves painter efficiency

For over a decade, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division partnership with the University of Northern Iowa Waste Reduction Center’s Spray Technique Analysis and Research for Defense (STAR4D)'s has led to innovations in painting systems that have increased quality and reduced waste. To improve training for painters, STAR4D developed the 3D VirtualPaint system, a virtual reality simulation, for use in training certifications and refreshers. Carderock is working to draw more awareness to these systems through the Department of Defense.
