AUVSI expands presence at Florida summit on drones, public safety, and disaster response

November 17, 2021

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), an FLC partner, will have an expanded presence at the Florida Automated Vehicles (FAV) Summit, which will take place from November 29 to December 1 in Orlando, Florida.

The collective use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) by Florida public safety agencies, industry, academia, and nonprofit organizations will complement automated, connected, electric and shared vehicle technology programming at the event.

The 2021 FAV Summit will mark the first official event supported by the DroneResponders Florida Public Safety Coordination Group, a joint statewide project recently launched by the AUVSI Florida Peninsula Chapter and the Airborne International Response Team (AIRT), a nonprofit organization supporting the use of unmanned systems for public safety and disaster response. DroneResponders supports emergency services organizations using drones and other robotic systems to help save lives and protect property.

"Public safety and emergency response missions are at the tip of the spear for helping to garner public acceptance of unmanned vehicle systems," said Christopher Todd, executive director of AIRT. "We are excited to partner with AUVSI and the FAV Summit team to provide demonstrations and insight on how this amazing new technology will help shape the future of Florida."

Started in 2013, the FAV Summit assembles automated vehicles industry leaders from around the world to address technologies, operations and policy issues. The FAV Summit mission is to help Florida create the ideal climate for the implementation and deployment of autonomous and connected vehicle technologies.

The DroneResponders portion of the FAV Summit programming will feature speakers from:

* Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

* Florida Highway Patrol

* Florida Power and Light Company

* Orange County Sheriff's Office

* Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office

* Southern Manatee Fire & Rescue District
