Labs in Action: EPA Tech Developed to Remove Ammonia from Drinking Water Also has Green Energy Potential

A technology marketed as NoMonia, which was designed and patented by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to remove ammonia and other contaminants from drinking water, is now also positioned to play a key role in producing green energy. AdEdge, the first company to license the technology, was acquired for $40 million by clean energy company Chart Industries, in part because of water purification's importance for producing hydrogen power.
