The Photo of the Week visually showcases the exciting work federal labs do every day!

About this image:

There are likely no aviation programs in existence today that have not benefited from the CREATE advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools. This game-changing software was developed by the Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC’s) High Performance Computing (HPC) Modernization Program. Developed to replace physical testing with simulation and modeling during design iterations, the CREATE program leverages multi-physics codes running on HPC platforms. These “virtual tests” have transformed the U.S. Department of Defense’s acquisition efforts. CREATE’s tools for ships, aircraft, ground vehicles, antennas, and other structures benefit more than 2,400 government, industry, and academic users in the defense community.

About the federal lab:

Managed by the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) establishes world-class, state-of-the-art capabilities and expertise within Department of Defense (DoD) laboratories and test centers. Because HPC enhances productivity by providing faster, safer, and less expensive insight about the physical world than observation and experiment alone, HPCMP seeks to apply HPC to DoD’s most significant challenges.
