As the Department of Defense moves forward in its pursuit of integrating biometrics technology into facility access control, the Global War on Terrorism and weapon system control, the Armament Research Development & Engineering Center Picatinny, NJ is well positioned to facilitate biometrics development with the engineers and facilities for achieving success in the new and exciting field of biometrics. The Army Biometrics Research and Engineering Lab is a crucial piece of the necessary groundwork needed to accomplish the goal of applying biometric systems to controlled access points, communication systems, computer systems, and countermeasure platforms. The main priority of the ABREL is to become a Center of Excellence for biometrics research, development and engineering by providing industry, academia, DoD, Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies.
