Description

The Contaminant Partitioning and Sorption Process Laboratory provides the capability to study soil sorption and nonaqueous phase liquid dissolution processes in packed column and stirred reactors. A system using liquid chromatography components generates breakthrough curves for various sorption and dissolution experiments. A high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system provides for contaminant confirmation and quantification. These systems are used to conduct studies on the nature of interface mass transfer processes, with applications to building better models to describe sorption and dissolution processes. Models can then be used to perform simulations for contaminant exposure assessment and remediation planning.
