Description

The Electrical Systems Laboratory (ESL)houses numerous electrically driven drive stands. A drive stand consists of an electric motor driving a gearbox and a mounting system for either floor mounted or flanage mounted test articles. Each drive stand has a stand alone control system and data acquisition system.

All of the services required to conduct testing operations such as cooling water and oil systems are independent. This allows for operation of each drive stand when thetesting schedule requires no interferance from the other drive stands.

TheDriveStandscan operate unattended to support long term life evaluation. They are alsoused for testing electrical generators and helicopter drive system components. Onedrive stand is connected to a AnechoicChamber for conductingEMI testing of generators. The ability to condition the air temperature around the generator during testing is also utilized to ensure the testing simulation represents service conditions. The types of components tested include:

  • AC/DC Generator Systems
  • Electric Engine Starters
  • Starter/Generator Units
  • Power Conversion Components
  • External Power Monitors
  • Batteries
  • Power Management Systems
  • Helicopter Drive Components
  • F-18 AMAD

In addition, Drive Stand Capabilities supports torque capabilities of:

  • 50 HP (4)
  • 200 HP (3)
  • 300 HP (5)
  • 500 HP (2)
  • 0to 50,000 RPM
  • Attitude Gear Box
