Description
The Environmental Microbiology Laboratory, located in Bldg. 644 provides a dual-gas respirometer for measurement of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide evolution from soil or aquatic microcosms. This tool is useful to determine respiration rates and, indirectly, the biodegradation rates and extent of biodegradation of organic compounds, including fuels, solvents, and other organic wastes. Also, equipment is available for microbiological water quality analyses (coliforms, fecal coliforms, etc.), and light microscopy. A variety of potentiometric tools for measuring dissolved oxygen, pH, and dissolved ions are employed.
