Description

Human factors research and development capabilities in all modes of transportation. Studies relationships between humans and automation technologies to improve safety, security, and productivity with due concern for unintended consequences.

The FRA encourages railroad stakeholders outside of the Federal government (including academia and industry) to utilize the CTIL facility. FRA funds the Volpe Center to provide research and technical support to anyone working on an FRA-approved project in the CTIL lab. Volpe reserves the right to restrict access to laboratory facilities, equipment and personnel at its discretion based on priorities, current use and/or need. External use requires a formal agreement governming usage terms and conditions. As a non-appropriated organization, reimbursement for costs directly associated with the use of Volpe laboratory equipment, facilities and/or attendent staff is required.
