Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division is situated on 648 acres on the western shore of St. Andrew's Bay in Panama City, Fla. The station has five major departments and employs more than 1,350 civilians and 130 military personnel. Coastal Systems Station is a major research and development activity of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, with another level of headquarters at Dahlgren Division in Virginia. Because of the northwest Florida location, employees have ready access to the excellent natural resources, showplace facilities, and state-of-the-art instrumentation needed to simulate, analyze, develop and test equipment for the Navy's fleet. Station employees have developed or significantly influenced virtually every type of mine, torpedo and sonar countermeasure in operations use today. As the name refers, the Station is the leader in the development of systems that operate in the coastal regions of the world.
Mission
The mission of the NSWC Panama Cityis to support the mission of the Dahlgren Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center by providing research, development, testing, and evaluation for mine countermeasures, special warfare, amphibious warfare, diving and other naval missions that take place primarily in the coastal region. It also executes other responsibilities as assigned by the Commander, Dahlgren Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center.
