Linsteadt T2 achievement award submissions are due July 16

The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Research and Engineering requests nominations for the FY 2021 George F. Linsteadt Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer by 5 p.m. on July 16.

The Linsteadt Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of technology transfer (T2) professionals, managers, researchers, principal investigators, patent attorneys, and others who perform duties that enable and advance Department of Defense (DoD) technology transfer. Recognition of these individuals highlights the important contributions of technology transfer activities both inside and outside DoD, by increasing awareness, understanding and impacts of technology transfer on the warfighter.

Linsteadt was a pioneer and a champion of T2 for laboratories in 17 federal departments and agencies. The recipient of the award embodies the vision and spirit of Linsteadt and other forward-thinking DoD T2 professionals who pioneered technology transfer and strive to find innovative ways to use T2 in support of the DoD and its warfighting missions. The Linsteadt Award honors individuals and teams who continue to move the field forward.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Nominees must be current Military or Civilian DoD employees who are directly responsible for technology transfer or technology transfer process improvement.
2. The nominated achievement activity must have taken place within the previous three (3) fiscal years. For FY 2021, the activity must have taken place between FY 2018 and the present.
3. The award winning team or individual is not eligible for consecutive year awards.

Award Criteria
1. The nominated individual or team was responsible for the technology transfer activity, or played a significant role in supporting the activity, or improving processes associated with said activity.

2. The activity was a cooperative effort with participants in at least two (2) of the following categories:
* Laboratory where the invention originated
* Any DoD component
* Other federal agencies or departments
* State or local government entities
* Institutes of higher education
* Non-profit entities
* Commercial entities
* Individual inventors

3. As a result of the effort/initiative, the T2 activity has or will bring significant tangible benefits to:
* The originating laboratory or component
* The DoD
* Other federal, state, or local government organizations
* The private sector

4. The nominee or nominated team demonstrated exceptional forethought, creativity and initiative with regard to possible innovative applications during the technology transfer process.

5. The nominated individual or team demonstrated outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills with all members involved in the process (i.e., technical persons, lab management, partners and legal staff).
