ORNL - 3D Printing a House

AIME 1438967207 web

Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are using innovative additive manufacturing techniques to 3D-print a specially designed home for the lab's Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy (AMIE) demonstration project. Researchers, collaborating with industry partners, used this "first-of-a-kind" process to rapidly respond to design, manufacturing, and materials needs, which ultimately increased the speed, quality, and buildability of the home. Once completed, the house will demonstrate the possibilities of integrating additive manufacturing in the buildings industry.
