BSA 11-17: Conductive Polymer/Fullerene Blend Thin Films with Honeycomb Framework

This composite conductive polymer/fullerene blend material can be fabricated to exhibit regular, micrometer-sized pores. The pores allow the material to transmit light while the hexagonal framework is conducting. The material is self-assembled from an organic solvent containing the fullerene and the conducting polymer using the Breath Figure Technique.
Patent Abstract: 
The material is self-assembled from an organic solvent containing the fullerene and the conducting polymer using the Breath Figure Technique (BFT). Although demonstrated with poly(phenylene vinylene) (PPV) derivate, poly{2,5-bis[3-(N,N-diethylamino)-1-oxapropyl]-1,4-phenylenevinylene} (P1 PPV), it is anticipated that other PPV derivatives or conjugated polymers such as polythiophenes, which are known to exhibit efficient charge transfer when complexed with fullerenes and which are soluble in volatile nonpolar solvents such as chloroform or chlorobenzene, may be used as blended materials for self-assembly into transparent thin film honeycomb structures.
