Partial Automated Alignment and Integration System

Patent Abstract:
The NASA technology is a faster, sustainable, cost effective alternative to traditional ground assembly and integration of space and launch vehicles at launch complexes. The Partial Automated Alignment & Integration System (PAAIS) consists of three primary components: the Precision Energy Emitters (PEE), Precision Energy Receivers (PER), and Precision Energy Adapters (PEA). PEEs are precisely positioned inside of a Vehicle Assembly Facility and emit energy collected by PERs when precisely aligned. PERs are located on the surfaces of the PEA and convert thermal energy from the PEEs to electric power. The PEAs connect to the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate (GUCP) and provide a path for electric power to be distributed to the space vehicles Electrical Power System (EPS). Power is distributed to an onboard communication system that allows the transfer of the telemetry to the PAAIS computer, which commands operations such as crane movements.
