Technology transfer is the process by which existing knowledge, facilities, or capabilities developed under federal R&D funding are utilized to fulfill public and private needs. This video is an overview of the federal laboratory commercialization process and the impact technology transfer can have on our economy and everyday lives. Visit federallabs.org to learn more about the FLC and technology transfer.

The Department of Commerce has the responsibility to produce an annual summary report to the President and the Congress on the progress of federal technology transfer.  These reports, as well as links to data, annual agency specific reports, and other economic impact studies on technology transfer are available from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Technology Partnerships Office at https://www.nist.gov/tpo/publications-and-reports.  The FLC does not produce federal tech transfer summaries, since NIST has a statutory requirement to collect and report this information.
