Quantum computing holds the potential to revolutionize artificial intelligence (AI) by harnessing the powers of quantum mechanics to solve problems that exceed the capabilities of traditional supercomputers. By creating new quantum algorithms, it may be possible to substantially reduce the computing time needed to use machine learning to solve complex problems, such as formulating safe nanomaterials, enhancing climate forecasts, and discovering novel drug compounds. Taking these ideas from theory to practice will require significant resources, and the countries and companies who achieve quantum supremacy are likely to gain a competitive edge in the global AI race.
