Schayne Garrick Lees, a member of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Weapons and Complex Integration team, adjusts the TME3D “snout” hardware engineered to high impulse radiation environments. The development of new snouts, such as the CryoXNBS for megajoule class fusion neutron environments, enables new capabilities for the survivability experiments conducted at the National Ignition Facility. The National Ignition Facility allows the testing of stockpile components, such as electronics and other materials, in conditions that mimic what weapon systems may face in a hostile nuclear environment.
