Perpetua Resources Corp. is a NASDAQ and TSX listed, mineral development corporation headquartered in Idaho. Its subsidiary, PRII, is in the permitting stage for the redevelopment of the Stibnite brownfield site.
During WW2, Stibnite was the most significant producer of antimony (Sb) and tungsten (W) in the U.S., having produced over 90% of the Sb and 50% of the U.S. W needs during the war. As a result of war-time development, much of the site has extensive environmental and ecological damage remaining which would be addressed during future mining, reclamation and restoration activities as outlined in the proposed Plan of Restoration and Operations (PRO) and its subsequent modifications under review by state and federal agencies.
The Stibnite Gold Project (SGP) contains the world’s largest reported Sb resources and reserves outside of Chinese and Russian control and once developed would once again be the only major US primary producer of Sb. Emerging grid-scale battery storage systems will increase demand for Sb, and the project could provide a significant source for domestic grid-storage systems for utility, military and industrial users. Challenges include a lack of downstream processing facilities outside of China or Chinese control to process Sb-concentrates into marketable Sb-product lines. The Corporation is actively engaging potential partners to assist in evaluating alternatives to offshore processing facilities.
