The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command has announced a joint $550K to two companies to increase the safety of lithium ion batteries when exposed to extreme temperatures or nail penetration. Chicago-based Nanograf, an advanced battery materials company and a spinout of Argonne National Laboratory and Northwestern University, will share the award with San Diego-based South 8 Technologies, developers of a liquified gas elecrolyte.
