The US Census Bureau on May 14 released the first results of its experimental Small Business Pulse survey, which measures the changes in business conditions on the nation's small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial results cover the time period between April 26 and May 2. Data tabulations and visualizations are available online (see link below) and will be updated weekly through June.
The findings include:
51.4% of U.S. small businesses and 83.5% of U.S. accommodation and food services businesses have experienced a large negative effect from the COVID-19 pandemic
44.9% of U.S. small businesses and 65.8% of U.S. retail trade businesses experienced disruptions in their supply chain.
74.0% of U.S. small businesses have experienced decreased operating revenues
27.5% of U.S. small businesses had a decrease in the number of paid employees.
41.4% of U.S. small businesses and 72.2% of U.S. educational services businesses temporarily closed one or more locations for at least one day
31.4% of U.S. small businesses believe more than 6 months of time will pass before their business returns to its usual level of operations.
