In order to lessen the severity of the new coronavirus outbreak and shorten economic recovery, officials at one U.S. Navy laboratory have decided that its patent portfolio of technologies will be made available for repurposing by U.S. companies at a reduced expense.
The Technology Transfer Office at the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane Division said Thursday that it is authorized to negotiate royalty-free patent license agreements with businesses that would use any of its 300+ patented technologies. The technology transfer program at NSWC Crane has current partnerships with more than 100 businesses, individuals, and universities.
Retail spending and industrial output in the U.S. have plunged at record rates as large portions of the U.S. economy froze in March.
The 18 months immediately following the stabilization of the coronavirus pandemic will be the most trying the United States will face since at least the 2008 recession, so far as her economic health is concerned, American economic experts have said.
The Navy lab’s leaders hope that businesses and entrepreneurs will use these technologies to protect American lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and support new jobs and economic growth. The laboratory’s patent portfolio can be searched by all at TechLinkCenter.org. TechLink’s staff of certified licensing professionals are on-call to help businesses pursue patent license agreements with all branches of the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“We’re in it to help any way we can,” said Sean Patten, the senior technology manager at TechLink, who is the first point of contact on licensing the Navy lab’s inventions.
