Photo of the Week: Independent Test and Evaluation of Millimeter Wave Advanced Imaging Technology

The Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) Independent Test and Evaluation (IT&E) division certifies Millimeter Wave Advanced Imaging Technology (MMW AIT) for detecting contraband. The On Person Screening (OPS) Branch, in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), developed an Image Quality Test Kit, which is scanned in the MWW AIT to produce raw image data that TSL analyzes for Image Quality metrics. This kit helps TSL evaluate MMW AIT configuration changes and monitor image quality over time for preventative maintenance. Pictured, engineers Matthew Aderholdt and Andrew Aceti assemble and prepare the fixture for scanning inside a MMW AIT.
