Studying the lifespan of solar panels exposed to the elements, researchers at NIST surveyed the nearly 15,000-panel solar energy array on its Gaithersburg, Maryland campus. Shown here, researcher Karissa Jensen measures chemical changes that may have occurred in the panels' backing material. This research is being conducted in collaboration with partners including Case Western Reserve University and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
