A view inside a diffractometer at beamline 29-ID of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory. This device measures how an X-ray beam scatters from materials. By tuning X-ray energy to strongly interact with specific types of atoms, scientists can track the electronic and magnetic states of materials that can be used for quantum computing applications, among other things.
