Photo of the Week: SeptiBurnAlert, a Sepsis Predictor in Burn Patients

The Medical Readiness Systems Biology (MRSB) laboratory developed a gene transcriptomic biomarker panel along with an algorithm, named SeptiBurnAlert, that can predict the development of sepsis in burn patients within several hours of the patient’s admission at the clinic. SeptiBurnAlert can objectively score the risk during the patient’s asymptomatic phase of sepsis, which is nearly 50-70 hours before the traditional methods can diagnose sepsis. This would provide a significant advantage to the caregivers to regulate the antibiotic dose and implement personalized care.
