February 26, 2020

Today, The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released the American AI Initiative: Year One Annual Report to mark critical milestones made since President Trump launched the U.S. national strategy for leadership in artificial intelligence in February 2019.

Since establishing the American AI Initiative last year, the Trump Administration has called for record investment in AI research and development (R&D), led the development of the first-ever international AI principles, proposed the first-ever AI regulatory framework, issued the first-ever strategy for engagement in AI technical standards, and published the first-ever report of agency-by-agency AI R&D spending.

“The United States has taken historic action over the past year to advance our global leadership under the American AI Initiative. Our Nation remains committed to supporting the development and application of AI innovation that promotes public trust, protects civil liberties, and helps all Americans live healthier and more prosperous lives,” said Michael Kratsios, Chief Technology Officer of the United States, The White House.
