So, what exactly is tech transfer (T2)? In short, T2 is the process that turns laboratory inventions into products that make our lives safer, healthier, and more connected.
Federal labs across the country create groundbreaking innovations — from medical devices and clean energy technologies to cybersecurity tools and advanced materials — that have the potential to change the world. However, the government doesn’t manufacture or sell products, so those inventions can’t reach their full potential on their own. The labs collaborate with businesses, universities, and other organizations to develop, manufacture, market, and distribute their innovations to the public.
T2 makes that all possible. Together, they transform something created in a federal lab from a great idea into a life-changing product or service, all while creating new jobs, new markets, and new revenue streams.
Our members work to do just that, with the goal of improving the economy, society, national security, and more. The FLC’s mission is to support tech transfer professionals, connect them with others in the innovation ecosystem, and promote their impact.
