U.S. R&D increased by $41 billion between 2019 and 2020, according to NSF report

Research and experimental development (R&D) funding in the U.S. grew from $666.9 billion in 2019 to an estimated $708 billion in 2020, according to a recent analysis from the National Science Foundation's (NSF's) National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics. In 2019, the federal government had 9% of U.S. R&D performance and 20% of U.S. R&D funding; the business sector accounted for the largest share of both categories.
