WBI’s collaborative efforts guide 'smart garment' toward battlefield utilization

Programs designed and administered by the Wright Brothers Institute (WBI) to support innovative small businesses have been instrumental in developing a “smart garment” for the military that senses penetrating wounds and burns while simultaneously alerting medical personnel. In January, Legionarius participated in a technology acceleration program for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awardees in partnership with WBI and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). On March 15th, the company secured an Information Technology Agreement (ITA) with AFRL’s 711th Human Performance Wing, allowing Legionarius access to data needed to develop and iterate on the SBIR-awarded technology. The ITA also paves the way for a potential Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA).
