On April 14–15, 2021, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) will host a workshop to discuss municipal solid waste streams as a feedstock for biofuels.
BETO recognizes that waste streams are promising, but that they must meet cost, quality, and sustainability targets for broad utilization. Participation is encouraged from stakeholders representing academia, industry, municipalities, and federal agencies involved in waste management, resource and energy recovery, waste utilization, and sustainability.
This virtual workshop will solicit input on a variety of topics including:
* Identifying technical challenges and opportunities associated with developing advanced preprocessing technologies
* Defining critical paths toward synergistic use of municipal solid waste streams for both conversion-ready feedstocks and valuable co-products
* Examining the economic viability and sustainability impacts of waste stream valorization.
