System of Hospitals for Innovation in Pediatrics – Medical Devices

This interactive 3-day event, sponsored and guided by a multi-component group that includes the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), is for all stakeholders interested in accelerating the development of medical devices for children’s unique needs.

The first day of the event focuses on the System of Hospitals for Innovation in Pediatrics – Medical Devices (SHIP-MD), a strategic framework aimed at innovating and streamlining the pediatric medical device development process. Days two and three include in-depth breakout sessions that focus on the following key workstreams:
* Navigation
* Finance
* Hospitals
* Regulatory
* Reimbursement

The meeting also will include time for questions and answers as well as community feedback. Participants are encouraged to provide their feedback and insight into the SHIP-MD framework as part of creating a comprehensive strategic plan.

SHIP-MD is a collaborative effort, funded by a cooperative agreement through the FDA, that includes academic investigators, pediatric medical society representatives, pediatric patient advocates, the medical device industry, pediatric health system leaders, financing and reimbursement experts, and other key stakeholders. This pre-consortium is examining unmet needs of pediatric medical device development and develops solutions to address those needs.
