Call for Federal Laboratory Technology Transfer Success Stories

Numerous steps and factors go into the technology transfer process, and it can take years for many federally developed technologies to be brought to market; therefore, when commercialization does happen, it needs to be shared, promoted and celebrated.

One of the core elements of the FLC’s mission is to promote federal laboratories’ T2 success stories and share the significant impact that federally developed technologies have on our economy and society. When we redesigned the federallabs.org website, we made it a point to dedicate a large portion to showcasing the groundbreaking and FLC award-winning technologies that have gone on to shape industries, create jobs, and transform our everyday lives for the better.

Both the FLC success stories gallery and the FLC awards gallery highlight the collaborative R&D, lab and industry partnerships, award-winning technologies, and successful technology commercialization that have taken place at federal labs. Each gallery features an interactive map that pinpoints the successes and awards that have been achieved at labs across the country. The success stories gallery is searchable by state, region, agency and laboratory, while the FLC awards gallery is searchable by award category, year, region and agency.

We encourage all of our site visitors and members to take a moment and view the inspiring successes that our federal labs and their T2 offices work so hard to accomplish. We accept success story submissions year-round and are always looking for successful commercializations and partnerships to feature.

If you have a success story from your lab that you’d like to see featured in our gallery, or if you know your lab spotlights its successes in laboratory publications (e.g., annual reports, brochures, case studies, etc.), we’d love to help you promote those technology milestones!

Using our online form, you can easily submit your success stories that meet the following criteria:

  1. The story must be approved by your laboratory or agency PAO.
  2. The story must include at least one of the following aspects:
    1. Successful commercialization of a technology
    2. Successful partnership between a laboratory and an external organization or another federal laboratory
    3. If the federal technology has not been commercialized, the story must include how the technology has made an impact in a community or nationwide, and how it has the power to improve society.
