Laboratory: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

Technology: Method for Processing Carbon Nanotubes

Opportunity: This invention is available for licensing through NIST.

Details: This novel nanomaterial harvesting method was invented by NIST scientists as a low cost and nontoxic scalable means to generate debundled, debulked, size-fractionated carbon nanotubes (CNT). Current CNT processing methods are not easily scalable, can produce toxic waste byproducts, and destroy most of the initial material.

Benefits: In addition to being cost-effective and nontoxic compared to current processing methods, NIST’s CNT processing method can speed the development of CNT for various other technology area applications.

Applications: Potential fields of application include:

  • Electronics
  • Biotechnology
  • Drug delivery
  • Toxicology
  • Lithium storage
