DSC 1134 1 1438024821
This photo, by the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research's (USAISR) Steven Galvan, shows the lab's Burn Navigator in action. USAISR developed the Burn Navigator in collaboration with Arcos, Inc. This FDA-cleared device directs intravenous fluid administration to burn patients from 24 to 72 hours after injury to prevent harm and improve outcomes. Using advanced decision support technologies, the system puts expert advice in the hands of non-expert personnel, providing recommendations customized to the needs of individual patients. The USAISR has led in the development of advanced medical decision support systems and automation technologies for use in military critical care environments since 2005.
