The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s (PNNL) nuclear forensics efforts support national security. Nuclear forensics experts analyze nuclear materials at various stages in the nuclear fuel cycle to gain insight into the material’s place of origin and process history. This expertise fulfills the lab’s goal of supporting legal investigations of nuclear and radiological material smuggling, and deterring future smuggling.
