State of the Union Hits T2-Adjacent Themes


President Obama didn’t mention technology transfer by name last night, but he wasn’t far from it. In his State of the Union address, he touched on several issues that have been hot in the T2 community. Among all the other issues, he called for a massive push for federal R&D, with the goal of churning up the speed of our economic progress. He also touched on something near and dear to many of you—STEM education. And he mentioned something we’ve been telling you a lot about recently, the 3D printing center known as the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII) and the plans to create more such facilities. The President announced the creation of three more of these centers, which (like NAMII) would be public-private partnerships working toward revitalizing the manufacturing industry in communities that have been hard-hit by job losses.
