In 1921, Earle Dickson invented the BAND-AID® for his wife Josephine, who was always cutting her fingers in the kitchen while preparing food. Dickson took a piece of gauze, attached it to the center of a piece of tape, and then covered the product with crinoline to keep it sterile. When Dickson’s boss at Johnson & Johnson saw the invention, the company decided to manufacture the BAND-AID® for the public and promote Dickson to vice president of Johnson & Johnson.
