You Asked—We Heard You

At the FLC national meeting this spring, our training courses covered the America Invents Act. You told us that you wanted to know more as the reforms take effect this year, and we listened.

The E&T Committee is pleased to announce the launch of a new webinar series with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) concerning the America Invents Act. The USPTO is responsible for issuing proposed and final rules on the Act that will govern how you actually implement the new policies within your organization. This webinar series, featuring USPTO staff, will give you the opportunity to learn the procedures as they are being put into place—straight from the source. During the webinar, you’ll hear the policies firsthand and be able to ask questions. By participating in this series, you’ll be better able to help your scientists, researchers, engineers, and staff adapt to the new rules.

You’ll also have a chance to learn about some of the proposed rules that are still up for comment by the public—and be better informed if you feel the need to comment. The USPTO needs the opinions of people like you, and is reaching out not just to help you, but give you the chance to help as they build the new structure for patents in the U.S.

We hope that this series will be the start of a robust program and a relationship with the USPTO that benefits all our members and their partners, and that you will join us. Webinars will take place at 11 a.m. EDT every other Monday in October. On October 1, the series kicks off with the Senior Legal Advisor for the Office of Patent Examination Policy, who will share information on first-inventor-to-file proposed rules.

We are thrilled to have the USPTO onboard to share the AIA rules with you as they take effect, and we look forward to seeing you in our webinar series. To sign up, click here.
