BSA 00-22: Assaying Clustered DNA Damages

Analysis of the exposure of cells to ionizing radiation and DNA-damaging chemicals is enabled by this simple technology. Closely spaced damage in DNA may result in irreparable damge, cell death or, in some cases uncontrolled cell proliferation. Measuring exposure and sensitivity to DNA-damaging agents is a simple procedure enabled by this method.

Describes a method for detecting and quantifying clustered DNA damages induced by exposure of the biological organism to a DNA-damaging agent.
The technique provides a sensitive reliable method of detecting and quantifying clustered damages in genomic DNAs or mixtures of DNAs of unknown DNA sizes. The method can be used to evaluate the biological impact of both low and high doses of radiation.
