Toaster Software: Optimizing CRISPR Technologies for Genome Editing 2016-056

Researcher Sarah Richardson of the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) has developed Toaster, a software program that designs Cas9 targeting reagents for non-human model organisms. Given a genome sequence and a target locus, Toaster chooses spacers to maximize both genomic accuracy (by uniqueness) and Cas9 efficiency (by spacer secondary structure). It generates both guide RNAs and CRISPR sequences as well as accessory oligos and DNA sequences for the fixing and screening of Cas9 processed DNA.
